Nau mai, Haere mai, welcome to the IUFRO 1.01.04 Tree Establishment and Early Growth Dynamics Conference website.

The conference titled ‘Achieving Forest establishment success at scale to address climate, environmental, social and economic challenges around the world’ will be held in Rotorua, New Zealand, from 17-21 March 2025.

The Hosting Organisation of the Conference is Scion, a New Zealand Crown Research Institute that specialises in research, science and technology development for the forestry, wood product, wood-derived materials, and other biomaterial sectors.

Scion is a large government and industry funded research organisation with 350 staff, including 200 scientists.

We look forward to welcoming you to Rotorua.

The conference scope includes advances in forest science, technology, policy, practice and Indigenous Knowledge that support forest managers, scientists, policy makers and regulators working on sustainable practices for forest establishment and early stand management. The underpinning science disciplines are wide ranging and include plant ecophysiology, micro-meteorology, soil science, nutrition, inter-and intra-specific resource competition, forest ecology, quantitative silviculture, young tree growth/process-based modelling, plant protection, data science, mechanisation and automation.
