Should a building be a world onto itself? Or should it relate to its context? Do the best buildings achieve both: create their own order and language while also addressing and even shaping their environment?

Following the International Conferences on Architectural Criticism (2021), on Architectural Quality (2022), and on Architecture as Built Criticism (2023), the 2024 conference seeks papers that show how realized buildings stand in the autonomy and engagement debate.

The online format of the four-session conference allows for active debate between the audience and lecturers. Presentations are succinct to allow for ample discussion time. Besides the four keynotes, there will be up to 16 short papers. The conference will be recorded and placed on YouTube. The conference’s language will be English. Attendance is open and free of charge.
